The Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Jun 14, 2026    Pastor Robert Ziehmer

This exploration of spiritual gifts challenges us to recognize that we may be living far beneath what God has already placed within us. Drawing from 1 Corinthians 12, we're confronted with a startling reality: most of us operate like smartphone owners who only use 10 percent of our device's capabilities. The Holy Spirit dwelling within us came fully equipped with everything needed to accomplish God's work, yet many of us remain ignorant of these resources. The sermon walks us through the truth that spiritual gifts aren't a limited catalog but rather a platform through which God's power flows through surrendered people. From Bezalel the artist in Exodus 31 to the prophet Elisha's servant in 2 Kings 6, we see that our problem isn't our circumstances but our vision. We're invited to stop white-knuckling our faith, stop exhausting ourselves through human effort, and instead drop the rope we were never meant to carry. The distinction between two kinds of hard becomes clear: the difficulty of faithful service versus the depletion of trying to do God's work without God's power. This message calls us beyond reasonable planning to radical surrender, reminding us that God gives gifts not for our platform but for the profit of all, making the church more effective in advancing His kingdom.
