Last Minute Salvation (Good Friday Service)
This reflection on Luke 23:39-43 invites us to witness one of the most profound conversions in Scripture. We're confronted with the stunning reality that salvation comes through faith alone, not through our works, merit, or religious accomplishments. The thief hanging beside Jesus had no time for baptism, no opportunity for good deeds, no chance to prove himself worthy. His hands were nailed to wood, his feet immobilized, his life draining away. Yet in his final moments, he recognized Jesus for who He truly was and simply asked to be remembered. This story challenges our cultural and religious assumptions about earning God's favor. It reminds us that no pit is too deep for God's hand to reach, no past too littered with mistakes to prevent His grace from breaking through. The criminal's transformation from mocker to believer happened in mere moments, demonstrating that it's never too late to turn to Christ. We're called to examine our own hearts: are we still clinging to pride, hoping our good works might outweigh our bad? Or will we, like this thief, humble ourselves and admit our desperate need for a Savior?
